get ready to live. (in like 2 months)

We settled on 1977 this afternoon.  It was supposed to be yesterday and then it was supposed to be this morning and then it was like 2:00 and we finally had the keys in our hands.  seriously loan officer people.  the drama.

Thanks to Nichole for watching my rascals.

Would you like to use the restroom???  Wash your hands in a clamshell sink perhaps?  That is a new toilet David put in to replace the pink one.  super hot.  the pink one's up for grabs to the first taker.  I joked with a friend the other day about planting flowers in all three nasty old vintage toilets, or maybe using them for composting... and then I got carried away and stopped with the re-using toilet jokes.  Any other brilliant ideas for re-puposing toilets?

We did have a dumpster delivered and filled it partially with a laminate kitchen this evening.  The kitchen is already gutted my dearest dears.  GUTTED!!!!  I have the pictures to prove it, but not the cord to upload them.  I am salvaging the totally rad doorknobs, but other things are up for grabs or in the dumpster.

I think I am going to put a huge CURB ALERT on craigslist.  I need to sort everything --

curb alert
yard sale
ebay
keep
TRASH

We have a garage and basement full of funky vintage whoosits and whatsits.  The sellers were going to have a salvation army truck come and take everytthing --- and I said -- hold up there, cowboy.  I'll do it.

fun times ahead.

Friends have offered to come over with razer blades to slit mattresses and find hidden money.  (it happens).

Here is a tip:  Do not take your 80+ year old grandmother to your new-old house and show her everything while you are doing demolition.  She will think you are crazy for wanting to change things.  She will love the orange and green carpets, love the mustard laminate kitchen and pink bathroom and drool over the clamshell sinks and quite crazy 70's lighting.

But she will agree that those toilets had to go.  and then she will get all sweaty and want to go home.

Earlier today I said that there wasn't even the faintest hint of a sparkle of light at the end of the tunnel, but when David came home from demolition tonight with the gutted kitchen pictures, my heart smiled, jumped and twirled

and I swear I saw a little spark.

I grew up with a beautiful pink bathroom!! And a pink kitchen!! Yes, pink toilet, pink sink, pink bathtub, pink tile, pink oven, pink stove, and a pink refridgerator!! It was awesome. You'll never believe that we girls also had a pink bedroom with pink-checked bedspreads.

Oh how I loved that house :) I love your grandmother!! :)

We just tore down the SAME pink tiles from our bathroom! Luckily no shell sink, but still...lots of pink. The best part about remodeling an old 'vintage' style house is looking at all of the after photos! I know it will all look amazing when you are done!

I'm really excited for you...to see how this all turns out. So what's the timeline? Are you doing just a couple of things first--like the kitchen and bathrooms--or are you doing the entire house all at once? Just curious...

Using toilets as planters is so Baltimore kitsch; I say go for it. Can't wait to see the before and afters of the house. I'm sure you will do an amazing job, good luck!

saree -- I knew you would appreciate that one. ha ha.

lauren --- I am thinking to put them on craigslist for free because I really can see someone doing that!

Miggs -- I should write a whole post about it but briefly, yes. a timeline. first this summer is knocking down walls, replacing floors, painting, kitchen. The fall is bathrooms and lighting.

Next spring and summer will be outside. -- garden boxes... deck...

fun fun fun!

Tip no. 2--you should have brought some ice cream for mormor!

Tip no. 3--Do not post pictures of your beautiful pink bathroom on your blog because now your six year old neice wants her bathroom to look just like them!

HA HA tiff! I wish brielle could have this pink toilet! I actually think it would e darling in a little girls bathroom, as long as it wasn't aLL pink... that is cute.

Azucar -- I have heard of that site. It's funny because normally I love retro, but this is just really bad. The pinks all do not match up. The sink is more peachy pink, the toilet was a true pink and the tile was like mauve. The master bathroom is DISGUSTING. It is so bad that I think I will just put a big curtain over it until we can renovate that.

molly, you should come over and take a look!
