I could melt

Maybe you say nerd.
I say handsome.
I am a sucker for the little gentleman with a gentlemanly part.

Classic.

Also classic: long sleeves.  Not really, but I always buy everything a size up.  That's a 5T brown cord blazer.  I want him to wear it for two years.  I rolled the sleeves later.  Plus he always wants to put his little paws inside his jacket and shirt sleeves.  He always looks handless in the winter.

Max was decked out for his preschool Christmas party.  I could have melted when we arrived and another half dozen were also decked.  Christmas dresses, sweater vests and wool pants, nice hair.  Maybe we can raise a generation of children that are more proper and gussier than our generation.  A generation that will wear party dresses and bowties to a 5 year old's birthday party.  I remember pictures of my own 5th birthday.  I was in a pretty dress that my mother had made me.  Would you gussy up your child to come to my son's birthday party if I requested it?

I always want to dress my kids to the nines to go to a birthday party but I don't want to have them laughed at or hear "wow, they are really dressed up."

I took Oliver to his first birthday party a few months back.  I remember really wanting to put him into a button down and bowtie, but I restrained and put him into my favorite shirt.  (I didn't realize it is my favorite shirt until I discovered it in nearly all pictures of him this past fall. Anyone else do that?)  But the part was there.  And handsomeness is always there.

And there are 3 reasons why I love the above picture:

The comb on the floor from the freshly combed part.
Max with only one shoe on.
Max looking like Napoleon Dynamite
"I get invited to like an infinity
of birthday parties, Oliver"

I uploaded my life from the last month today.  Get ready to live.
I will be a blogging fool this upcoming week.

Yes to the gussy-up question! I wish I had more excuses to dress to the nines (where does that phrase come from?). More dress-up parties, dinner soirees, black tie events. When we are too casual all the time about dress and attitude, we lose the seriousness of formality and forget standards, expectations, guilt (ohh, that part is good to get rid of). I think it is fun to be fancy.

Ha ha ha! I love Max as Napoleon! Lane always insists on wearing a dress to parties, so I go along with it! She would dress up to go to IHOP, so yes we dress up for parties. My sister always buys or makes her daughters a new fancy outfit for their birthday. I love that idea. It makes them feel even more special!

I would absolutely dress up my kids if you requested it.

And I'd be happy to do it.

I love it when my kids look good too, when Layla's hair bow, dress and shoes all match. I love the part in Austin's hair, when he will let us comb it. Ryan's hair will not part...we won't even go there...

But please don't dress Max up to come to Ry's birthday party next month because I don't want to get glue on his fancy clothes!!

I once dressed up for a party in 4th grade... like a skirt only.. and when my friend opened the door she said the EXACT thing you said, "oh wow, you're all dressed up!" and I felt so stupid. Elise told me it would be fine to wear the skirt. ELISE!!!!!
Yeah, I agree that it would be fun to really dress up for kids' parties but I don't see it around nor do I see it happening with the beast as it is hard enough to get him to not wear shorts on Sunday.
I LOVED your caption for that picture, it was freaking hilarious!!
And I am so excited for all your posts.

JEss -- they won't be that fancy. Maybe Ryan will get a birthday bow-tie. Is his favorite color still green? He and Max can be matching fancy at church. They will BOTH be in Primary now! I will dress him semi-formal for the birthday party. how about that? all glue-friendly.

Sarah --- ahhwwww.... it WAS okay to wear it and the girl who said it probably didn't mean it in a bad way, she was just making an observation, unless she went on and on about it. When I was home for Christmas I saw an old YW leader. She has lost some weight and gotten pretty fancy over the years. I said to her and her sparkly coat, "You look nice, like you are going to a fancy party". I wonder if I made her uncomfortable too, but I was impressed and I thought she looked nice. I was just observing.

The key is to carefully decide who your children hang out with. (I know, cuz this is what I do with my children) Then you make sure that the people you kick it with are also all about dressing to the nine's. Then you gradually invite others ONE AT A TIME in a way that they understand the rules. You must dress up, part your hair with product so it looks just greasy enough, and girls must wear bows, you must respect the game. Soon, people will want to be involved and dress to the nines all the time...

Yes, I'd gussy up Lukas for you, I'd even smear aquafor into his hair to get it to lay down straight! He looks smashing in a tie and a little suit vest. LOVE it!
