I took this picture quite a while ago, but it has been sitting in the favorite flagged photo files for a while. ooh... like that alliteration?
It came out of the files today because the funniest thing happened over the weekend. You see, when we were renovating 1977 and it was taking three times longer than we thought, I had to do a lot of improvising when it came to entertaining my children. The toys were packed, the COSTUMES were packed. My children don't quite know what to do with themselves when they can't spend the day not being themselves. When a certain red head pleaded at grandma's house to be turned into batman and I hadn't a cape, a sewing machine or a piece of black fabric, I sent myself on a mission through the few possessions we did have in our temporary basement home.
I happened to have a thick stretchy banded black maternity skirt in my suitcase and I found a safety pin in mormor's stash. I fastened it around the Swabber's neck. Insta-cape. And he was happy and off saving all of us from the bad guys.
Well, the cape quickly became a permanent and my skirt was gone forever. This was over a year ago now and the cape is still worn near daily. Beacuse it is stretchy, he can pull it on himself.
Last Thursday evening, after oliver had spent the afternoon roaring around the cul-de-sac on his big wheel, I saw a neighbor (who never comes over and thinks my boys and I am crazy as it is) leaving my house. I hadn't heard a knock so I assumed she must have left something for us.
I opened the door and hanging on our wreath hook was that batman cape.
I had to laugh, because I couldn't imagine what was going through her head. It had to be either:
a: what is that lady's skirt doing out in the middle of the road?
or
b: liz lange makes batman capes?
Either way, she knew it belonged to the crazy lady and her crazy boys.
and p.s. --- Max does NOT want you to know that he is also wearing a tulle skirt insta-cape. that only lasted for one afternoon with him because "mom, i don't WANT to wear a skirt for a cape". At least I got a great picture though.
p.p.s-- i finally posted a little something on section 89 today.
