a conversation I don't want to forget: responsible cowboys.

Oliver is such a big helper.

Just when you thought your 6 year old was too old to say the funniest things anymore, you get something like this.

Us- driving through our neighborhood after Hurricane Irene.

Me: Hey boys, look at that neighbor's house on the corner.  They still have a lot of leaves and branches in their yard.  We should go and help them clean up.
Max: Those cowboys can clean up their own mess.
Me:??????????  Cowboys?  Max, how do you know that cowboys live there?
Max: They have texases growing in their yard.
Me: Texases????
Max: Yeah, Those pokey plants.
Me: Oh, cactuses.
Max: YEAH, cactuses.  And cactuses grow in texas and cowboys live in texas so cowboys live there....
Me:(HAAAAAAA HA Haaaa) Makes sense.  Great connections Max.

---------  This happened nearly 2 months ago now and every time I pass that house I still say in my head "those cowboys can clean up their own mess".  It never fails to put a smile on my face. (and FYI we did end up helping the ELDERLY couple that lived there.  and I told them the story.  They got a big kick out of it.)  I love thinking about the wheels turning inside my max's head figuring all of that out.

this story is so cute. i read it a couple days ago but had to come back and comment today because as we were out driving today atticus noticed the "ugly" dessert plants of vegas and i told him they were called cactus and he totally responded with, "yeah, like cowboys." i don't know how kids learn these things but it's pretty funny!
