Last Friday was the big day. the big 33. I love having an October birthday. David had been out of town all week in Singapore and so I decided to give myself a little present and him a little surprise. I finished the long overdue kitchen backsplash. I have been waiting to show you an official before and after of the kitchen because of this little hang up.
I had a little help from a Mr. Michael King... just an architect from church, that's all. He was a great teacher and let me do most of the work. I let him help with the electrical, and I finished it off (I also shocked myself. literally.) We still have the under the cabinet lighting to install and we need to do some caulking and a silicone beading where the tile meets the counters, but I am showing you anyway.
It is so nice to finally cover up the black bean splatter stains behind my stovetop.
before.
we tore out everything. including the soffits (the empty space above the cabinets), flooring, rerouted the electrical, knocked the wall out over the stove, built the island from scratch.
I saved that cabinet hardware. for something, sometime.
also notice, no drawers! who designs a kitchen with no drawers?
This was all renovated when I was 7-9 months pregnant living at my in-laws..
after.
(la creuset on stovetop -- birthday from mommy---thank you mom, I love it!)
I also re-sanded and refinished the countertops. tiling is a lot of fun. not as hard as you might think, takes some patience and a good eye, but not hard, friends. and not expensive!
Still finding a lot of kitchen inspiration on pinterest, lots of details to add, but we're getting there.
happy 33rd to me.
more kitchen shout outs:
Cipriano Valdez, did all of the original electrical work in the original renovation. awesome job.
William Mattson, Jason Crowl, Eric Stephenson for kitchen demolition. good friends make good kitchens. thanks guys.
Chris, dave's brother -- helped to patch up and hang drywall, resurface the ceiling. Yes, Mr. Fitness did our drywall. Maybe he will autograph it next time he comes out. :)
Nick Miller and his father in law Norm for the kitchen design and cabinet install. love those guys.
Grandma in Idaho for the dishwasher! saved my life! (we went without one for a few months - ran out of money)
Dave, who am I forgetting?? (besides you of course) So many people have helped with this house... but who specifically in the kitchen?
My in laws for babysitting the kiddos while we worked on all of it!

:O) Alisa
Awesome Tiffany awesome!
hey lady! Happy 33rd! What a beautiful, clean kitchen, with clean lines, clean colors-- ooh! Just love how it turned out... especially that you knocked out that wall! Amazing!
Oh my gosh! First of all, happy late birthday! Second of all, AMAZING!! I'm so jealous, your kitchen is so beautiful! Makes me want to go buy a house so we can knock it all down and renovate. Thanks for sharing... :)
BEAUTIFUL! I get inspired by things like this. We may be moving soon and a kitchen re-do would be necessary. I'll have to come to you for questions.
And Happy Birthday!
that is INCREDIBLE! it must make you so happy to walk into that beautiful dream kitchen.
so beautiful both you and your kitchen. Your kitchen turned out so perfect - I love cooking in it with you and your cute boys. Love your birthday pictures - only you would take advantage of a bus with 33 on it - great eye - detail is everything and so are you!
Tiff! it's amazing! love the bright white and wood. LOVE the subway tile and LOVE that window sans awful diamond mullions. And super love your bangs.
what a hottie cookin in a hottie kitchen
At first I thought you were joking and put a picture from a magazine on your blog like your dream kitchen. I can't believe that's your actual kitchen that you get to cook in every single day! You are so talented and blessed to have such awesome help. Good job! :)
Hooray, Hooray! I am so impressed that you did the tiling. It looks fantastic.
gorgeous! i love every single detail! i wish we had the budget to finish up ours but not for now. love tho tiff! nice work!!!
It's beautiful!! I'm properly jealous!
I have a small idea of how difficult this shiz is after finishing our basement this summer. We were not remodeling, just...er...uhh modeling, so I think that we had it easier. Having to take down existing stuff has got to be an extremely difficult extra step. There are always so many dumb little things to finish, like the bead of caulk you mentioned! Anyway, UHHH MAZE ZAHH ZING!!! Seriously!! You should be so proud of yourself!! I love the color you chose for your walls and your lighting choices with that chandelier. If it ever comes up missing, don't look at my house. ;)I'm sooo super impressed by your tile job. Yea for white subway tiles and the cabinet pulls that make me miss my grandma!! I was too scared to try the tile, but your bravery just may have inspired me to make an attempt cause we have two pieces of backsplash that still need to be put in behind the sink. And taking out that wall was fantastico! But my favorite is your IKEA farmer's sink. Yeah, I put the same one in downstairs. Great minds DO think alike. "Faaaaaaaa...ck T." (Sorry, my kids have been watching a lot of Kid History on youtube lately.)
it really does look so beautiful Tiffany! you guys did such a great job. and you are so awesome for putting up the back splash by yourself!
Wow.
WOW.
Funny that I want some of the exact same thing in my kitchen--namely wood block counter tops (also love cement), white subway tile and that sink! I love those sinks!
I'm jealous...it's beautiful.
One more time....WOW.
thank you everyone! it's a lot of fun. like I said, not complete, but close!
miggs-- I love cement too, but not anywhere near our budget and I wasn't going to risk doing them myself. Wood is CHEAP. a fraction of what anything else totals up.... I love the look. not for everyone but definitely for me!
Just saw this, Tiff! Absolutely amazing! You blow my mind with how much you do yourself! It looks so gorgeous. I love those counter tops and the farm sink and the subway tile! Ahhhh, it's all so pretty.
LOVE your new kitchen!!! And love the flowers. You are one talented girl!
