the celebration of the decade.

The Anniversary Getaway.

We celebrated 10 years in Philadephia, the city of Couple-y Love.  We dropped the boys off at their grandparent's house  (thank you!) on a friday afternoon in early august and headed up. That night we ate at Reading Terminal Market (which is maybe what you call a whole food court? -- hey that is kind of like those before and after phrases you see on Wheel of Fortune.  Please tell me you know what I mean). Delicious.

After that we jumped on the metro, got off and took an awkward bus ride to see Death Cab For Cutie.  (I didn't take a darn thing but my ticket and ID with me to the concert- so no pictures. sorry!) We sat in an outdoor amphitheater and relived our early married years with Mr. Gibbard.  The show did not disappoint -- we heard a lot of our old favorites -- and yours truly couldn't sit still.  There we were in the nosebleeds and there I was standing and singing and dancing around like I was in the front row.

silly me.  fun me.

it was fun to pretend we didn't have any responsibilities.

we got a hotel.

and didn't have to wake up to crying responsibilities.  That is a gift in itself, friends, a true gift.

nice hotel.

Grabbed an egg sandwich on foccacia with fresh tomato and strolled the early morning farmer's market around the corner

we munched on a basket of fresh apricots while we waited for a couple stores to open.  Hit the H&M to school shop for Max and then hit my favorite anthro to date.  It is in the most incredible building.  Mom and I discovered it a couple years ago.    Apparently it's their flagship store.

that's dave, walking in.

that ceiling!

this is a ceiling too -- all of these old portraits.  it's so much cooler in person.

anyone else's husband sit on the man couch and pick up some reading while you die and go to heaven?

these shoes were displayed on 4x4s.

discovered this magazine while browsing...

potted eye candy along the streets...

before we left we stopped by this place I saw on Diners Dives and Drive-Ins.  An old-fashioned (and I mean old fashioned) ice cream place called The Franklin Fountain. (Named after Ben Franklin).
check out the ice cream scoopers:

all those syrup flavors above and vintage gum below.

the biggest bottled soda collection i've ever seen.

David got a Watermelon Lime Soda (notice the paper straw) and we both shared "The Franklin Mint"  (description here).  They served everything in vintage glass.

headed home, but of course had to stop off at
be-still-my-heart - Terrain.

I promised myself I would remember the name of this plant. I lose. It's some kind of oregano... I saw it at the anthro in philly and thought it was incredible and then lo and behold it is for sale at Terrain.  of course it was.  I couldn't buy it because I was leaving for CA the next week... who wants to head up to Terrain soon so I can get some of that fancy oregano?  Isn't it gorgeous?

and speaking of gorgeous... there he is.

It was a dreamy couple days.
David spoiled me and let me see and do
all that my little heart desired.
and wasn't it nice to hold hands all over philadelphia.
We hadn't realized how much having children jeopardizes
the hand holding.
We came home more in love than ever.
and I know you wanted to know all of that :)
happy ten years to us.

We've been to the Franklin Fountain for ice cream, too! Love that place! It was a MarkK reccomendation. Fun overnight date, good for you TWO. Congratulations! I dreamed last night that I was helping you paint (are you painting alone?) and you said "Don't answer the phone, it might be Starman." Mean anything to you? Love Philly, love you!
