Quite possibly one of the top five days in Max's life.

(right when we moved in last fall -- both of them dressed up as chimney sweeps watching the Step in Time scene)

obsessed.
and has been since he was two.

You've never met a bigger Mary Poppins fan. He was the inspiration behind these Halloween costumes.  And other Poppins references. Well, we might as well invited the neighborhood over and passed out popcorn, because these boys put on a show a few months ago when the real sweeps came over to install a new liner and clean out our chimney.

When the van pulled up and the sweeps got out, max's anticipation deflated a bit ( I had told him for days they were coming).  No fancy caps.  No brooms in their hands. no singing. and....... no dancing.

but.

Upon request they had the brooms.

THE brooms.

Not the vacuum cleaner attachments that had been our stand-ins for years (see above picture)

Real chimney sweep brooms.

The sweeps warned us that the boys would get dirty, but they can't hurt the brooms, so they can play and dance and do whatever!

And then the son of the Son and Father Sweep-a-Chim Duo started in with a vibrato -- Chim chimminy chim chimminy chim chim-a-neeeee

and I thought -- CHA- ROOOOOOOO!!!! but I didn't say it. -- and inside I thought, isn't that song like a pre-requisite in becoming a sweep?? c'mon buddy.

and now a few photographs of a boy's dream come true:

Welcome to Max Week:  Where you get Max to the Max.

This is the BEST. I love Mary Poppins, and Max is living the dream. :)

A boy after my own heart! And of course, the best musical song for a boy.....all filthy, doing crazy jumping around choreography, at a height that is life threatening!!!!

Love the pic of both boys looking ninja with their brooms!

I went to NY last weekend and saw Mary Poppins. It was awesome. The movie has been a long-time favorite in our house. Boy #! wanted to name boy #2 Mary Poppins, had he been a girl...

And as for Max, I love it when dreams come true. Loved those broom pics. Very, very cool. ( + very sweet.)

(Tell Max, in the play, Bert walked up the wall, tap-danced on the ceiling (sky) and walked back down the other side. Too fun!)

My son was obsessed with Mary Poppins and chimney sweeps too!! He would mimic every move those sweeps made. He's sixteen now. Guess what he was for Halloween last year? Yep. Bert. He totally looked like him too. Tall and skinny with an awesome replica of a chimney sweep broom!

I love hearing these stories of other little boys love for Bert and the sweeps! I think you are right Heavenly Home, a perfect combination! dirt, jumping, danger, not to mention the fireworks and baseball at the end.

Julie, that is too cute that he still had his die hard love when he was 16! So darling.
