(yes, it's that dress again - round three)
Last Monday I visited a new sister in our ward. She and her husband share one car and so she is home by herself most days while he is at work. And in her first trimester. and VERY sick. Like can only eat popsicles kind of sick. with two little girls running around, both younger than Max and Oliver respectively. We talked pregnancies. She asked me what I was hoping I would have. I told her I guess I kind of am hoping for a girl, but of course would be happy with whatever the Lord sent to me. I returned her question and she said she didn't care --- She would love another girl because she said every woman wants a little girl and now that she has hers she is relieved and her husband doesn't care if they have 7 girls, he loves his little girls, but a boy would be fine too.
And inside I thought, yes, maybe that is true. Maybe women do want to have girls. ruffles. smocking. hair.
I went on Friday to my first ultrasound.
I was nervous.
And I found out that I am having........
.........
.........
.........
another boy.
Can you believe it???
What in the world am I getting myself into??? ha ha A fixer upper house and three little rascals.
At first I was a little shocked, I must admit. I kind of just laid there (you have to anyway) and stared at David. He smiled and said, "it's going to be great".
And he's right. it is. I smiled back at him and chuckled. Both Max and Oliver sat there licking Tootsie Pops. Well, Max sat there, Oliver kept turning the room lights off and on.
I called my mother immediately afterward and told her and my sister. They laughed with me as I told them the news. Can you believe it? I said. My mom said, "Yes, I can believe it, you are a good boy mom."
And that was the best thing she could have said to me at that moment.
I try hard to be a good boy mom.
Today while David interviewed and had meetings at the church I sat atop three stacked couch cushions on the top of our living room sectional -- the stoop of our pirate ship. I was the bloated and nauseated Captain Bigbelly and my two brave shipmates jumped around on pillows floating in the tempest sea, fighting sharks and sea dragons until they finally found the hot chocolate treasure on the faraway island.
Yes, hot chocolate when it is 95 degrees outside.
(Remember that we are trying to empty our pantry)
We sat at the kitchen table and drank our hot chocolate treasure. I thought about the little wee brother in my belly and mentally I started making a shopping list of all the things I will need for this new baby:
Another foam sword
Another bow and arrow
More vintage polyester for cape-making
Another big wheel
Another knight costume
Another fake hook
Another water gun
More band-aids
More thrift store ties
More jeans in every size --- (none of mine above 12 months have lasted - hence, this post).
I do love being a boy mom and I know so many other boy moms who love it too. I told a good friend of mine, and having 4 boys of her own, she assured me that I will love it, they will be best friends.
I think I agree.

Congrats Tiffany!! that is great news! this just means that you have to have more!! look at me-three girls and then two boys.....congrats again!!
Yes- my experience tells me that you will love it. Aaron and I were talking the other night about how IF we could have chosen what we were to have, we wouldn't have chosen 3 boys. And then we agreed that we were very thankful that we weren't the ones choosing. I am in heaven with my three little boys. And I love that they have eachother. You are a great boy mom! And I can only imagine how excited he is to join his shipmates! Congrats Tiff! So happy for you!
Im so excited for you! I must agree with your mother...you ARE indeed a good boy mom..i am trying to be one myself ;0) I guess it doesnt matter at this age (he just eats and sleeps) but i cant wait to get dirty with my little boy later on..fishing, catching frogs, playing in the mud etc..good times will be had! Congrats Tiffany ♥
WOW!!! I am afraid to have another baby, because I'm afraid I'll have 3 boys and I don't know if I could survive it. My mom told me that, "Some houses only have room for one princess." Since I like to be the princess, guess I better keep having boys.
Congrats!!
man, i love being a boy mom. It's so awesome. hope we have more boys in the house for him to play with! I just love you, you know that? Oh, and I got FREE ice pebbles at our local meat dept. for a Jamba Juice activity night because of your ice post. LOVE IT!
I love it. I love that he will instantly have best friends, playmates, and someone to rough him up when he needs it. and I really love that Heavenly Father knows that he can entrust another sweet boy into your family and that he will grow strong, wise, caring, centered and loved. congrats.
Boys, boys, boys...(that's all I can think of to say), can't these Rueckert genes produce more girls? Maybe the Dean & Inger Rueckert gene's like special things in 2's like...2 brothers, 2 Tiffany's, 2 granddaughter's...either that or you just want to compete with Elise! :) You are a great boy mom, but I'm sure you'd be a great girl mom too...but instead you can be a great girl Aunt -- Brielle thinks you are wonderful and she always love's her stuff made by you!
Two of my three boys left for boy scout camp with dad this morning for a whole week....the little left behind guy, knowing how sad I was to see them go said "It's okay, mom, I'll give you THREE kisses and THREE hugs every morning and night until they come home!"
Boys are loud and messy and LOUD and active and LOUD and....oh so sweet!
Congratulations Captain Bigbelly!!!! And a big welcome aboard to the new little shipmate!
Your mom said it perfect! That was what I was trying to say on the phone the other day! These boys need great boy moms like you these days! And Captain Big belly...I love it!! :)
Your boys are awesome. YOU are awesome.
:) Oh T! That is just great. I can't wait to see what he looks like. And remember--it still could be a girl (not that you're sad just the reality of it) because I was told Claire was a boy.
That is so great what your mom said. So true.
I wish so bad that when the doctor told you that it was a boy that you would have said, "its NO FAIR!" (oliver style) and rushed out of the room, maybe even knocking their jar of que-tips to the ground. I'm laughing at the thought of that. I will have you know that I have told all of our family members about the times Oliver told me "its no fair". We all do it now. "hey mom, whats for dinner?" "spaghetti" " its NO FAIR!" So funny. Tiff, you are a GREAT mom to those little guys and you will be a great mom when your little girl finally decides to come down. This little mister is going to have a blast with his brothers. Its gonna be so fun. Oliver and Max are going to be obsessed with him. Love you!
Congratulations Tiffany!!! You are indeed, a great boy mom. You know what they say...
Mothers of boys work from SON up to SON down. :)
You are an incredible mother and your boys are very lucky. How fun to have three little boys in a row! Congrats!
Holy Smokes!! How exciting!! You're mom is clearly as cool as you are- for her awesome comment.
We DESPERATELY need awesome boy-moms like you, I want Hazel to date boys raised by moms like you (yes, Max is pre-approved). :)
Besides, it gives you an excuse for number four...we were three girls and the last was a boy.
Boys Rock.
I seem to be rambling. Okay.
Maybe picnic soon? Life is calm-ish now that camp is over...
Okay, really...CONGRATS!!!
Great news!! 3 boys sounds fun and my granddaughters will need your great guys in a few (well, more than a few) years :) Brinley still insists she's marrying Max, so he's taken.
Oh I just got the chills as I read ... boy. And a big smile came to my face. I've got 3 boys too. And it goes without saying, I love it! You ARE a fantastic boy mom. One I am trying to be like more.
Congrats.
And I LOVE that picture at end!
Go for a whole soccer team! My mom has 5 brothers and 1 sister... the stories my Grandma have about her wild boys are priceless!
Congrats, cuz!! <3
has* (sorry Chinglish is still wearing off.. ha ha)
You can say, "My Three Sons" and watch retro episodes and laugh. I wish Sam were closer in age to Stewart and Max, would have been nice. Congratulations! And I am SO GLAD you tell us early, so we can prepare-you know, with you! Looking for mister stuff to shower you with!
Congratulations, Tiffany! I felt the same way when I found out I was having my third girl. And sometimes I just sit and think and dread the day when I have three teenage girls running around here. But it's funny because for now, each one is so completely different from the other. And I really have no sense of what Ramona will be like. I'm sure your boys are the same. We are basically living the same life you and I--as far as kitchen remodels too. We are in our new house in UT now and are remodeling everything and it's terrible. I can't wait until we're done. I am excited to see your before and after pics.
YAY! How awesome!! Being a "Boy Mom" myself, I am so excited for you! The other day, I was going through some boxes and found my boys "I'm a Boy" ultrasounds! When I showed them to my ragamuffins, they could not stop laughing! I love the silliness of boy humor and the camaraderie of a best bud. Enjoy!
Danielle
congratulations on another healthy looking boy! You do sound like a good mom to boys. I meet your boys for the first time while I helped out in the nursery a few weeks ago. They are really cute kids!
I am so excited for you! Even more excited for your little boy on the way! oh, the fun he will have. What a wonderful blessing you are for those boys. They will all grow up to be fine men someday, thanks to an incredible, creative, talented mommy. Congratulations! miss you.
yeah! you are an amazing mom...just reading this post proved it...my kids are watching tv while I am on the computer and you played pirates and drank hot chocolate...the little man is coming to a great place!!
Aw what a great post! I smiled the whole way through it. I can't wait for our little ones to be friends! Hopefully Saron is a tomboy :)
CONGRATS CONGRATS CONGRATS!!! I am so excited for you and your little munckins!! You are the most wonderful Mama ever! Just think, your boys won't be asking for Anthro clothes when they're older, so more $$ for you to hit the sale rack!
Congratulations!
Congrats! Maybe number four will be a girl...our number four (after three girls) was a boy. Well, you sure make cute boys so you're good to go!
Yeah!! Another friend to play with!!
