Cooker Boy

Every time I find myself in the kitchen I find Max right next to me asking to help.  It might be his favorite thing (and mine). "Mom, I love being a cooker".  Which is absolutely fine with his mama because I think a boy who can cook is a marvelous thing.  I have always thought:  I have boys, but by golly they will know how to cook and know how to dance.

And I think it's happening.

I have more recently been letting Max use a knife.  He is very responsible and careful.  He does my little easy cutting jobs like slicing olives, cutting the ends off the beans, slicing a banana etc.

One day Max asked me if he could make me a "recipe snack" all by himself.  I remembered a time when I was about his age that I asked my mother the same question.  She said yes.  I remember looking and looking through the cupboards.  I got a mug.  I put in some peanut butter.  Some syrup.  Some Honey.  I stirred.  I took these sesame stick candies my mom would get from the health food store and broke them into small pieces and stirred them in.

oooh.  I thought I was such a good cooker.  It was gooooooood.

So, like my own mother, I said yes.

this is what he brought me:

five raisins on a saltine.

We have a ways to go,

But oh, how I love my little cooker.

**Welcome to Max Week:  Where you get Max to the Max.

Lane and Charlotte love to be cookers too. That Max will be quite a catch one day!

I'm impressed with his knife skills! His future wife will absolutely be grateful to you one day for instilling a love of cooking and dancing. So dreamy.

When I saw the knife I recalled the book "Last Child in the Woods" and was singing your praises. :)

slap a little peanut butter on that cracker with raisins and delish. Max is getting so big it depresses me a little. He is such a good older brother and i love him for his imagination and big heart AND his zebra eyelashes.

This is the cutest post ever. You are such a great writer. You. always make me smile. P.S. I loved cooking and experimenting as a kid. I gotta remember to do that with my kids...

My kids call it being a "good bake"!
