I'm bananas about you.

Yes, I was THAT mom whose child gave out bananas instead of candy for Valentine's Day.  I am not against candy in general.  There is just so MUCH of it!  Do you remember the Valentine's Day parties of our youth? When you were lucky to get one conversation heart in the valentine envelope?  And they were oh so carefully chosen.  You had to pick just the right one for Lyle Dochey (2nd grade crush) or maybe you put TWO in his  --- woo hoo, hot stuff!  Back in the day, after opening all of your cards you would end up with like a dozen little hearts and maybe a cupid sucker from that rich kid in class.

Max came home with whole entire boxes of conversation hearts from his friends, along with dozens of other confections.

It is seriously like Halloween now don't you think?  Soooo much!

We thought the bananas were fun.  Even if we are nerdy.  Next year's ideas:

I'm RAISIN my hand to tell you I love you!
I don't CARROT all who knows it, YOU ARE MY VALENTINE!
You are the APPLE of my eye.

We are total valentine nerd alert.

I love the banana sticker on his forehead. We always did that when we were kids. Where did you get the Curious George stamp?

I bet the other kids LOVED the bananas. That is what is so great about little kids. They don't know yet that bananas are good for you and should be avoided. They still love them.

oh my gosh! I love that he wrote his name on the actual banana! My Jack would love to get a banana for Valentine's Day- he has one every day!

Allison, that sticker is actually a buzz lightyear bandaid. But yes, aren't banana stickers the best? In high school I collected them and put them along the edge of my door (where it closed into the door Jam) The collection was almost the length of the door!

I think the banana idea is great, and also the apple idea. Perhaps the kids would be disappointed about the carrot, but the slogan is wonderful!

I always wanted to be that rich kid. Which apparently many others felt the same way because we are all going into to debt to send our kids with huge candy Valentines :p

Not nerdy at all. I love your ideas. I might have to use them if I remember for next year. Please remind me, k? I love that you are so dang creative. I told you.... You have the ideas, I'll make 'em a reality! :)

I was that rich kid...JUST KIDDING! Honestly, the most memorable experience for me was making Valentine boxes to receive the cards. I remember one year, my bff Valerie Parker and I decorated a refrigerator box all in pink with two slots, one for me and one for her and we stood in the box to receive our Valentines. We had a contest to see who could make the best box and there were all sorts of prizes. I am sure we won the biggest award or something, it was a HUGE deal. Wouldn't that be a fun idea? We should do it next year.

I love the bananas and the stamp!! I am doing something like this for next year! How about: "I want to caul if you'd like a flower..." I'm sure i could come up with something better..ha, ha, I don't think they'd want cauliflower.

I love it! And I hate all the candy--Garreth seriously turns into another child (an evil one) if he has sugar.

Do you actually know any children who like raisins? I'm just wondering.

Hows about some dental floss -

Either - "Enjoy the dental floss!!" as a creative note, or "Hafloss of of love today!!"

Dara, my kids do like raisins. I love them too, always have! One of max's favorite cereals is Raisin Bran. Raisins are one of those things that you love or hate. I blogged about that once a long time ago.

Lauren, thanks for saying hello and for your nice comment. I hope you see a lot of cute things in a day so I can feel pretty cool! :)

Gosh, and Serena -- that is AWESOME. We would make our own boxes and envelopes but it was never a contest! I would have loved that. I love picturing you in your giant refrigerator box, hand outstretched. You are the coolest!

What an awesome idea! I would much prefer a banana to those gross chalky hearts. Very cute idea.
