Sunday Confessional

I didn't know where the voice that said the sacrament prayer was coming from until I was probably 8 or 9. For years I would peek with one eye and try to figure it out. There was no one at the pulpit. The bishop wasn't saying it. Hmmmmmm.........

My conclusions in consecutive order from early childhood on:

1. An angel
2. Heavenly Father
3. Someone outside with a microphone that we could hear inside -- I remember trying to convince my mom to let me go to the bathroom during the sacrament so I could see if this was true.
4. A tape recording.

I will never forget the Sunday I was watching the priests and saw one of them duck down right before the prayer. I nailed it! I thought.... HE is the one pushing the button on the tape recorder.

I think it wasn't much long after that that I figured it out. I think it had to do with one Sunday when a priest had to repeat it 5 times and I saw him keep standing up in between each time and then going back down.

It took me another few years trying to figure out why they had to hide when they said it. Once, after church I was playing up on the stage and saw the laminated paper with the prayer on it by the microphone behind the sacrament table.

It all came together. Mystery solved. Years of mystery.

Haha... I remember trying to figure it out, too. Then I thought they had to memorize it and it was the COOLEST when I saw what was back there. Funny.

Sarah -- me too!! I thought they had to memorize it (well, after I thought they pushed a button) and when I found that card I was like -- ooh ooh! look!!!! And I think I even sat there and said it just to be cool, ducking down behind the table.

hahahaha...oh my gosh. SO funny. I don't remember when I figured out the sacrament prayer, but I remember always wanting to keep my sacrament cup. Pull it apart, rip it, color on it. Other kids did it and it looked fun. Mom NEVER let me...and now its too late. My branch upgraded from the white paper ones to clear plastic. Not as fun.-Sister

cort - ditto. I remember wanting to keep mine sooo bad. like, really bad. I don't know why. Maybe because it was rebel-ish. All I wanted to do was flatten it out. That's all mom.... really.
