An exchange I don't want to forget

Tonight I took the boys to a park with a couple neighborhood friends and their grandfather. The older of the two brothers, age 6, wanted to race me. I accepted the challenge.

Down the hill we went --across the field--and up the slope of the opposing hill... mid way up the second hill I pass him. Within two seconds I hear a gasping, "TIME OUT!!!" I turn in disbelief, looking down towards his feet for untied shoelaces. No untied shoelaces. I say back to him, "WHATEVER!!!! There are no timeouts in races! Suck it up! Keep running!" And I turn back around and keep on up the hill. He continues his sloppy trot upwards yelling desperately at me, "I'LL GIVE YOU MONEY!!!!!!"

HA HA HA HA Haaaaa!!!!

Oh man, that killed me. I'll give you money so you will stop and I can beat you. That is the LAST thing I want to do, kid.

I sprinted all the way back and left him in my dust.

Then we had a good little chat about racing and not quitting.

What a great story. The situation is just hilarious... a six year old challenging you to a race. He probably thought he could beat any girl, and wanted to at any cost.

That is very funny. Time out. Wouldn't it be great to be able to take timeouts all the time.

Baby is crying, house is a mess, phone is ringing...TIMEOUT!!

sounds like you really enjoyed beating that 6 year old into the ground tiff. Way to go.

hahaha! those are the best lessons and a great age to do it. You will not always be a winner, people aren't going to have compassion on you, get up--no one likes a quitter.

Seriously Jessica. I wish I could have a time out every day. I have told my husband before that there are times when I just want to run from the house screaming and keep running and running and running until I can't run anymore. Ever feel like that?
