Watching the second hand-------

It takes me a solid hour and a half to get the two boys and myself ready and out the door for church on Sunday. I really like to be on time. David has been the ward clerk for the past 8 months or so and has had early 6:00 morning meetings every week, so I have really worked on our Sunday morning routine without him. (What a blessing that calling was now that he is Bishop - I am already used to being home alone on Sunday mornings and afternoons).

This past Sunday was no exception. Our first Sunday with Daddy being the bishop. Schmeese comes wandering into our bedroom to find Oliver and I snuggling in the bed together after his morning feeding. I look at the clock - I have an hour and half until church starts. I pull Schmeese up into bed with us and we all snuggle. Ten minutes pass. I really need to get up and get going or we will be late.

So we do.

Downstairs for breakfast --two bowls out--shovel in the raisin bran --put dishes in sink--rush upstairs--shower with Max to save time--max refuses to get dressed--leave Max on towel on bed moaning while I bathe baby Oliver--bathe,lotion, diaper and dress Oliver--look at the clock -- still have forty minutes before church--put my clothes on--return to a calm Max who is now ready to be dressed--dress Max--comb his hair--throw on some make up and do my hair --look at clock -- 20 till--rush downstairs--put baby in carrier--get animal crackers, raisins and juicy juice out of pantry for diaper bag--hide animal crackers, raisins and juicy juice under burp cloth so Max doesn't see me put them in bag and risk a a fit to eat them now--tell Max to go upstairs to get some books for church--warm water for future bottle--put bottle in bag--put books in bag--look at clock--a quarter till--run upstairs to get diapers--run downstairs to get baby out to car--buckle in Max--buckle in myself--start car--stop car and run into house to get forgotten blanket and teething toy for baby--start car again--look at clock--ten till--think to self "It takes 8 minutes to get to church--I will be on time"--drive to church--look at clock as we are pulling into parking lot--one minute until church starts--look at parking lot------------see five cars----------wonder for a split second where everyone is at--------------look down at clock-------------

7:59

NOT 8:59

Church starts at 9:00

Did I really do what I think I just did?????????'

Did I really get to church AN HOUR EARLY??????????

How did that happen????

I realized then that I was watching the second hand of the clock all morning, paying absolutely no attention to the first hand. Even on the microwave and car's digital clocks I was watching the numbers after the colon....

There I was in the middle of church parking lot, dressed and ready to go, boys quiet and dressed in back of my car, Mormon Tabernacle Choir playing on the stereo, my church bag packed and an hour early. I just laughed. I laughed and laughed at myself.

That had to be one of the funniest things that has happened to me in a really long time.

hilarious.

Very funny story. I am embarrassed to admit that it takes me at least an hour and a half just to get myself ready. Sometimes it's even longer and sometimes I'm late...and my ward starts at 2:30 pm. Shameful.

Well, that's one way to get to church on time. I'm sure they are about to release me from being the primary pianist because I can't seem to get there on time... :)

So what did you do? Did you go home or take the kids in and try and keep them calm for an hour?

Tiffany, even though I knew about this,I laughed out loud as I read it. I hope you had a wonderful Sunday. You deserved it! Thank you for visiting mormor at the health center at the end of the day. She loved it and you ended the day in a lovely way as well. You did not use your early start as an excuse to go straight home. Keep it up!!

i did that once, and then went home to get my hour of sleep back, I then missed scrament meeting.

good for you!! I was laughing outloud as well. I can just picture Max, his comb-over, and fitted corduroy jacket, looking around in the back seat, unaware. Beautiful!

Hilarious???

I would have been so sad I missed the hour of rest!!! Obviously, that is all I am thinking about these days... but as my mother always says -- "that is a happy problem".

I was with Linda when we went back to the condo to "show them" and make up for the hour lost.

You are great, T, I need to be more relaxed like you!!

I can just hear you laughing and it makes me laugh thinking about you in the car. haha. I wish I was on time to church. or work for that matter. i have no excuses like children however. I just love snuggling under the covers. such a funny story.

I laughed so hard...very funny...I have done this before getting ready for school in high school. I ran up the stairs, thought it was 8:00, and it was really 12:30 in the morning. Random.
I can't imagine the overwhelming feeling you must have right now. You two will be an awesome couple to have as a bishop/wife combo for the ward. I have always heard that wherever there is a good bishop there is a good wife right by him. Good luck with everything!

I am dying- that is too hilarious! Gosh, you really are the Bishop's family- church early and I bet you sat in the first pew as well- show off!

I loved this-
It made me chuckle!
I am just wondering what you did for that last hour.
And I am sitting here wondering what I would do.

that is so funny. i thought it was tough to get to church on time without the husband and only only little lad in tow. i love that you were an HOUR early. blame it on the sleep deprivation!
