choosing my battles

I was rushing downstairs with the baby, getting ready to run errands, shouting at max "let's go" when I stopped dead in my tracks to see him ready to "let's go".

We ditched the black beaded necklace and turquoise pleather purse and away we went.

He wore that hat in and out of three stores. Everyone who passed us had a giggle.

That's great!! You'll have to tell me about how it is running errands with a baby and a toddler.

sarah - most of the time it is a nightmare. Max had a meltdown yesterday at the post office because I wouldn't let him put my keys in the swinging door trashcan. Kicking and screaming.

today at the pet store things were nice. we bought a pet fish...but that is another blog story..

Here are my tips for doing anything with a baby and a toddler (even though nobody asked...) Get a good sturdy babywearing-type contraption that you can strap the baby onto your person. That way your arms are free for catching the toddler by whatever bodypart you can reach. I also invested in a cute little kid backpack that doubles as a child leash. I know it sounds awful, but if you have a runner, you need it. Don't worry about the stares. If you get any comments, just ask them if they would like to babysit while you run to the spa for a massage.

Lastly, don't worry about it. Kids are kids and make noise. They aren't going to be perfect. Have that in mind and just don't be too hard on yourself when they aren't. But make sure they know that their behavior should be better if it's not and have dialogue with them about it.

That all being said, my kids are nuts, so don't listen to a thing I say... :)

i like to think he's reminded of our hat fashion show we had the last time I was home. He remembers me and just how cool it was. we had a good time!

those are some great tips...I for sure want a kid in a harness, even if I don't have another one strapped to me in some fashion.
